LIST OF COMMON WISCONSIN WORKER’S COMPENSATION BENEFITS
There may be a number of benefits available to a Wisconsin worker following a work injury. The following is a list of common benefits available to injured workers.
1. Medical expenses. This is likely the most common benefit. Following a work injury, an injured worker has a claim for medical expense benefits.
2. Mileage. An injured worker has a claim for mileage for traveling to and from his or her medical appointments.
3. Temporary Disability. If an injured worker loses time from work while healing, he or she may have a claim for temporary disability. This is essentially the worker’s compensation benefit for lost wages while healing.
4. Permanent Disability. This is a benefit available to injured workers when he or she suffers an injury with long-lasting consequences. It is essentially a payment for having a permanent work injury.
5. Retraining. If an injured worker has permanent work restrictions from a work injury and the time of injury employer cannot support those permanent restrictions, the injured worker may have a claim for schooling. This includes a claim for tuition, books, mileage, meals, and a weekly payment while in school.
6. Loss of Earning Capacity. In some cases, an injured worker with permanent work restrictions whose time of injury employer cannot support the restrictions may have a claim for loss of earning capacity. This is essentially a claim for not being able to earn your previous full wage on a permanent basis due to the work injury.
7. Disfigurement. An injured worker that loses a finger or other body part or sustains scarring from a work injury may have a claim for disfigurement.
